Episode 105: The Reality of Racism: Black Americans Still Need a Green Book
In late February 2020, Snoopy wanted us to buy a home in the same coastal Georgia neighborhood where Ahmaud Arbery was murdered. It was a bitter taste of the reality of racism in the USA, and it was heartbreaking to think over the fact that parts of my own country are not safe for my family. It also worried me that, after almost twenty years of living in Norway, I could unwittingly move my family to a home in the middle of "Klan Country". Recently, we found another potential home in coastal North Carolina. I asked my contacts about the "racial situation" in that area, and I talk about their responses during this episode.
Black Americans had the Green Book from 1936 until 1966, which mapped out the areas where they were safe or unsafe when traveling. Do we need an updated Green Book publication for today's America?
