Episode 107: February 12 2021Solo Surprise
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Today I talk about the passing of legendary producer Elliot Mazer. He produced albums for Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin and my good friend Øystein Remme. Yep, I had the great honor of working side by side with Elliot on Øystein's country album project (I wrote the lyrics for the whole album).
Also today: I have several friends who have just released their individual singles. They are Elin Eggen, Rudi Remme and Hans Cato Kristiansen. I talk about my relationship with each of them and their music, which you can find on Spotify, iTunes and everywhere you find music. I also share my thoughts on how I feel that we have our own Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter commune and musical collective here in our area of Norway.
Lastly, I talk about how I was kicked out (?) of the hospital yesterday on the eve of my neuro-surgery.

Episode 105: The Reality of Racism: Black Americans Still Need a Green Book
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
In late February 2020, Snoopy wanted us to buy a home in the same coastal Georgia neighborhood where Ahmaud Arbery was murdered. It was a bitter taste of the reality of racism in the USA, and it was heartbreaking to think over the fact that parts of my own country are not safe for my family. It also worried me that, after almost twenty years of living in Norway, I could unwittingly move my family to a home in the middle of "Klan Country". Recently, we found another potential home in coastal North Carolina. I asked my contacts about the "racial situation" in that area, and I talk about their responses during this episode.Black Americans had the Green Book from 1936 until 1966, which mapped out the areas where they were safe or unsafe when traveling. Do we need an updated Green Book publication for today's America? * If you'd like to support The Comin' Home Podcast With John Alan, you can do that at one of the links here: https://patron.podbean.com/JohnAlanhttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/johnalanpodhttps://paypal.me/johnalanpod

Byron Williams Jr. is a former member of the legendary doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group The Drifters. He is currently breaking new ground in the Norwegian version of The Voice.
Byron had a dream since childhood. His dream was that he would be an entertainer. He tells me his story of performing at a talent show in Miami as a 33 year-old, and being invited to audition for The Drifters immediately after the talent show. Listen to this episode to hear Byron's reasons for quitting the famous vocal group, and his reasons for getting back on the stage through The Voice. We also touch on pop culture and what it takes to be successful in it.

Sunday Jan 17, 2021
Danielle Stensrud is an American expat living in Norway with her Norwegian husband and their two children. She recently took on the task of coaching basketball here in Norway. Her group of young athletes are the first organized youth basketball organization in Oppdal, Norway.
Youth athletics are arranged quite differently in Norway when compared to what Danielle and I are used to. We talk about our athletic experiences and how we use those experiences in our daily lives. The differences between our U.S.A and Norway can be quite drastic when it comes to methods of coaching youth athletes and what Norwegian parents expect from their athletic children. We talk about it all.
